Learning to build
a video game

I want to make a game by hand, learning the craft one system, prototype, and small decision at a time.

I have wanted to build a video game for a long time. The earlier Game Design Experiments ↗ project gave me a place to explore mechanics, balance, performance, and in-game economies. There are more steps before this one, but I hope to be learning enough of the whole process to shape a new game more deliberately.

For now, the work is mostly study and observation. I’m following a practical video course and watching long-running indie devlogs to see how ideas become systems, how projects change, and how small weekly decisions accumulate into a finished world.
